Summer Vacation Activities

Vacations are a time for fun and relaxation. Summer is the time when kids build memories. But, more often than not, this is also the time when time is more and activities are less. So, to help you fill the time, here are some fun summer vacation activities for the family.

  • Make your own rain
Douse everyone with the hose or sprinkler. Make the heat bearable.
  • Cook out more frequently
Go beyond the burgers. Try veggies or fish. The kids might like them more if they come off the grill!
  • Play a board game
Candyland, chess or Monopoly, depending on age and inclination.
  • Experiment with new hairdos
Let the kids try out not-permanent colours or braids. Or maybe a spiked look.
  • Marble painting
This one’s for young kids. Get some tempera paint, poster paint or activity paint in at least 6-7 shades; a small pack of marbles; a metal box/canister; thick sheets of poster paper cut to fit at the bottom of the box. Now get the kids to coat the marbles in different colours and drop them in the box.
  • Keep a journal
Spending 15 minutes a day writing (or drawing) in a journal will give your child a head start on the old back-to-school question: What did you do on your summer vacation? Writing in a journal will also keep a child occupied for long periods while you work.
