4 Things Bob Ross Taught Us In Life

Bob Ross was a painter most famous for creating and hosting his television show The Joy of Painting. Lasting more than a decade, the show had a lot of recognition and everybody loved to watch it, if not for the beautiful paintings he painted on the air, then for the inspirational advice he inadvertently gave his viewers about life. Here are 4 things Bob Ross taught us in life:

1. “We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents.”

Bob Ross taught us that it’s okay to mess up sometimes. In fact, mistakes don't actually exist, only happy accidents that lead to greater things such as learning from them and moving on. Life gets in the way at times, and we react in ways that make us do things we might see as mistakes, but Bob Ross was there to remind us that there’s a lesson to learn from anything we do.

2. “Beauty is everywhere - you only have to look around to see it.”

We live in a world where being busy takes up a lot of our time, so we don't always notice the beauty in life. Not only did Bob Ross paint beautiful landscapes that exuded peace and tranquility, but he also reminded us that beauty is everywhere if we only take the time to look. He taught us to appreciate everything in life, from nature to animals to human beings and everything in between.

3. “Painting should not be agonizing, it should be fun. You should enjoy what you’re doing.”

A lot of us have pressure to do things we don’t necessarily want to do, but it’s convenient, especially when it comes to careers. Well, Bob Ross was there to tell us to enjoy what we do, otherwise, we’ll just be miserable. Following our passion in life is the key to being happy and healthy, and Bob Ross always reminded us not to settle.

4. “Trees don’t always grow straight, they grow however makes them happy.”

Bob Ross was clearly a talented artist, and he appreciated that everything in nature is unique in their own way. If ever you felt like you had to just follow the herd, Bob Ross was always there to tell us to grow in ways that make us happy. Nothing in this world is exactly the same, so why should you be the same as everyone else? You do you, and that’s all that matters.

Bob Ross was an amazing artist as well as a compassionate human being who taught us many things in life from guiding us through painting to giving awesome advice. If you want to know more about painting itself, Acrylic Painting For Dummies, by Colette Pitcher is a great base to start at. Although Bob Ross used oil paints, acrylic is quicker to dry and easier to clean up as a beginner.
